was a Bulgarian Symbolist poet. He was considered to be one of the finest poetic talents in the fin de siècle Kingdom of Bulgaria. Yavorov was a prominent member of the “Misal” literary and cultural group. His life and work are closely connected with the liberation movement Internal Macedonian-Adrianople Revolutionary Organization in Macedonia. He was also a supporter of the Armenian Independence Movement, and wrote a number of poems about Armenians. Most of his poems are romantic in subject, and dedicated to the two women in his life – Mina Todorova and Lora Karavelova. His first (and arguably greatest) love Mina died from tuberculosis, which greatly saddened Yavorov. She was buried in the cemetery of Boulogne Billancourt.

Abstract

In 1910 the poet collects all his work in one book, which would represent all his creative personalities. This book is “Following the shadows of the clouds” and it’s divided into three cycles. The importance of this book for the poet is enormous. In 1914, before giving up his own life, Yavorov makes a major edit with the help of his brother, leaving the book as a literature heritage for the next generations. The first cycle is named “Anthology”, the second is “Insomniacs” and the last one is “Insights”. Тhe book concludes with a cycle of three poems entitled “Queen of the Night”. The names of the poems are “Mesalina”, “Kleopatra” and “Safo”. The author wants to show his dual attitude towards the woman – on the one hand she is inspiration and purity, on the other – fear and an obstacle to spiritual elevation.
