Abstract
The action takes place in an elite language school, and the main characters are from the generation that grew up with the songs of the Beatles. There is the usual fast-paced school rhythm, there is the apparent discipline with subtle, restrained humor, there are big dreams and illusions, there is rebellion and the fire of heavy disappointment.
What is more valuable about this book now is that today’s reader will most likely be faced with the challenge of reckoning – both personal and on our “democratic” path. Underneath the forgotten school stories, the most sensitive question of today cannot help but shine: And we, haven’t we sunk too deeply into resignation?
This is the book that inspired the film “Yesterday.” When it hit the big screen in 1988, long lines of people lined up outside theaters at the time, many of whom would see the film for a second or third time. With its rebellious content, beautiful black-and-white aesthetics, and powerful music, this film became a cult classic.
