Abstract

One morning, the corpse of a sailor is washed up on the shore of a beach in Panxón, on the coast of Galicia near the city of Vigo. If his hands were not tied, Justo Castelo would be another of the sons of the sea who found his grave in the waters while fishing.
With no witnesses and no trace of his boat, Inspector Leo Caldas will have to carry out a major investigation. The daily life of a seafaring and tourist town, the hidden fears and lies of the past are the scenery where Leo Caldas walks, not knowing where to direct his personal life.
Leo immerses himself in the seafaring atmosphere of the village, trying to solve the crime among men and women who are reluctant to reveal their suspicions and who, when they decide to talk, point in a direction that is too unusual.
A complicated case for Caldas, who is going through difficult days: his father’s only brother is seriously ill and his radio collaboration in Onda Vigo is becoming unbearable. Nor does the impulsive character of Rafael Estévez, his assistant, who does not quite adapt to the inspector’s way of being, make things easier.
