He was born in Istanbul in 1939. He graduated from Istanbul University Journalism Institute. After doing his military service as a reserve officer in 1960-61, he worked first as a sports reporter, then as a sports chief and director in charge of Yeni Sabah and then Akşam newspaper. He won the layout winner in the competition of the Turkish Sports Writers Association in 1966-67. He also helped in the establishment of Sözcü newspaper, which was later published. Rahmi Turan, who left his job as a newspaper director, worked as a columnist for about 3 years in the newspaper Hürriyet. Since July 24, 2013, he has been writing for the newspaper Sözcü 4 days a week as a “lead writer”.
