Abstract

The Ugly Duckling is a classic fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen about a young bird who is ridiculed and rejected by others because of his appearance. Born in a barnyard, the “ugly duckling” is shunned by animals and humans alike, leading him on a lonely journey of self-discovery. As he grows, he endures hardship and rejection, but remains kind and hopeful. Eventually, he matures into a beautiful swan, revealing that he was never a duckling at all. The story conveys powerful messages about identity, inner beauty, and the pain and triumph of growing up and finding one’s true place in the world.
