Creative Europe encourages the dissemination of book translations

The Creative Europe programme 2021-2027 has a budget of €2.44 billion, compared to €1.47 billion for the previous programme (2014-2020). Creative Europe invests in actions that strengthen cultural diversity and respond to the needs and challenges of the cultural and creative sectors, including music, architecture, books and publishing, and cultural heritage. The Creative Europe programme is open to cultural and creative organisations from EU Member States and third countries. Under certain conditions, countries in the European Economic Area, candidate countries/potential candidates and countries covered by the European Neighbourhood Policy can also participate in the programme.

As regards books, Creative Europe supports in particular (but not only) projects aiming to translate, publish and distribute works of fiction in and from the languages legally recognised by the 40 countries participating in the programme, or recognised as part of the literary heritage of these countries; The programme’s priorities include: the transnational circulation and diversity of European literary works; encouraging the translation, publication and promotion of works of fiction written in less widely used languages, in order to increase their distribution in wider markets in Europe and worldwide; broadening the audience for European books, especially young people, by actively encouraging them to discover the diversity of European literature.
