Abstract
In a village near Anavarza, young Hasan’s father, Halil, is murdered by Abbas, Esme’s former lover. Esme, who had once loved Abbas before
Halil kidnapped her, becomes the prime suspect. After Halil’s death, Hasan’s uncles
avenge him by killing Abbas. The villagers, however, blame Esme for the tragedy
and, due to her beauty, pressure her to leave. Under their mother’s insistence, Hasan
is urged to kill her. Rumors about Halil’s unavenged death spread, and some villagers
try to dissuade Hasan from harming his mother. Despite efforts to escape with Esme,
Hasan returns, sets fire to the village, and causes damage to the animals. Overcome
by the relentless pressure, Hasan ultimately kills Esme with his father’s gun, given to
him by his uncle Ali.
