Abstract
“Hababam Sınıfı” is a sharp yet affectionate satire of the Turkish secondary-school system. Set in a private high school, it follows the antics of a class of undisciplined but resourceful students who resist the new assistant principal’s efforts to instill order. The story is both humorous and critical: it mocks cheating, rote memorization and false respect, while also depicting a warm, almost family-like bond among the students and their caretaker mother-figure. With wit and compassion, the novel holds up a mirror to broader issues of education, authority and social hypocrisy.
