Abstract

The story follows the ill-fated ascent of 16 climbers who fall victim to one of nature’s cruelest whims: a mountain avalanche. The novel is divided into three parts – before the disaster, during the disaster and after it. Although at the end of “Avalanche” you fully realized that there is no past, present and future time of an accident. It happened to you long before it came to you, even if you did not see it, and it lives on in you long after you have experienced it. If there is such a thing as an experience at all.The subtle beauty of the novel lies in its escape from shallow plots and empty talk. This is not light reading, it is not something you read for the enrichment of general culture, it is not even just a source of maxims. Reading “Lavina”, you have to be constantly alert to catch the countless threads with which Dimitrova drags you into a completely different and personal avalanche.
