Abstract
Ahmet Rasim lives with his mother and nanny. He spends his days playing at home. One day, he saw students leaving school and it sparked his curiosity. A teacher noticed his interest and brought him into the classroom. Rasim liked the school environment. When he told this to his mother she decided to send him to school and Rasim began his education. The fact that the teachers were so strict frightened him and made him afraid of making mistakes. In the following days, he witnessed the bastinado (foot whipping) for the first time. Seeing a child beaten with bastinado deeply affected Rasim, and not knowing what to do, he ran home. He was about to faint from fear. After he told his mother what had happened she became uneasy herself.
