Abstract
A gripping tale of espionage and intrigue, love and heartbreak, adventure and the history of a twentieth century torn to shreds.
A journalist is asked to investigate the life of his great-grandmother, Amelia Garayoa, a woman of whom he only knows that she fled, abandoning her husband and son shortly before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. To rescue her from oblivion, he must reconstruct her story from the ground up, fitting together, one by one, all the pieces of the immense and extraordinary puzzle of her life.
Marked by four men who will change her forever, a businessman, a French revolutionary, an American journalist and a military doctor linked to Nazism, Amelia’s story is that of an anti-heroine prey to her own contradictions who will make mistakes that she will never end up paying for and who will end up suffering, in the flesh, the merciless scourge of both Nazism and the Soviet dictatorship.
