Abstract

Isla ignorada was the first book of poems published by Gloria Fuertes. Edited in the Musa Nueva Collection in 1950, it had a very short print run and very little circulation.
In its verses we can already discover the roots and the genius of her future works, being like a foretaste of what was to be the adult poetry of this great author.
The book focuses on a poetic autobiography with an intimate and existentialist tone in a dynamic tone like the movement of life.
The poet compares herself to an island in the middle of the ocean, alone and misunderstood: this image transports us to her person, also surrounded by many people, metaphorised in the sea, but who do not understand her. Perhaps that is why she contemplates herself and finds within herself birds, flowers, wild animals, streams and volcanoes.
The following themes are dealt with:

-Intimate and analytical autobiography; the poetic self looks inward and sees herself as an island in a sea that is not always friendly.

-Recognition of the positive and negative, but not well known, aspects of her personality: generosity, emotional richness, but also disturbing and secret recesses.

-Lamentation of the incomprehension of others and, at the same time, vindication of her isolation.

The poem ends with a vindication of her proud solitude and the security of doing what she must.
