Petya Dubarova is among the brightest and greatest poetic talents in Bulgarian literature, who unfortunately passed away too young. She wrote her first poem of two verses, “Storm at Sea,” only in first grade.
Despite her short life, she left behind about two hundred poems, stories and artistic translations of songs. Her works are extremely tender, personal and sincere, but at the same time daring. Between the lines, one can clearly feel her fighting spirit, kindness and love for her homeland.Dubarova kept a diary, which she frequently wrote in. After her death it was published in incompletion.

She keeps her diary updated most of the time. It reflects her emotions and feelings. It is like a friend that she never had.

Abstract

“Me and the sea” is the only poem book of the young poetess, who aestheticizes the elements and eternal human values - the sea, summer, rain, youth, love, poetry, restoring their archetypal meaning and their primal beauty. Her poems reveal the spiritual face of a generation unwilling to come to terms with unification, hypocrisy and lies. Her favorite symbol, besides the sea, is the sun, so she is often called “the sunny girl of bulgarian poetry” and her poems are full of images of the sun and the sea from her hometown Burgas.
The most famous poems from the book are:
Initiation, To be a sunny girl, The moon, Confession and so on.
