Born in Athens, he became involved in leftist politics during World War II and was later imprisoned and exiled due to his political beliefs. His poetry, influenced by realism and modernism, reflects themes of oppression, hope, and personal resilience. He also took an active interest in translation (texts by Stendhal, Aragon, Mayakovsky, Neruda, Gogol, Garaudy, and others) and prose literature. His works have been translated into French, Flemish, German and Dutch. In February 2020, Patrick Maisonnave, the French ambassador to Greece, presented him with the regalia of an Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
