Aoyama was born in Tottori, Japan. He started drawing at an early age, winning a painting competition when he was in primary schools.
He graduated from Yuraikuei High School and studied fine arts at Nihon University with the intention of becoming an art teacher. There he met Yutaka Abe, another manga reader, who encouraged him to continue drawing and pursue a career as a mangaka.
After finishing his studies, he made his debut in the manga magazine Shonen Sunday with Chotto Mattete in 1986. He continued his career with numerous publications, winning major awards and selling millions of copies of his works.
In 1994 he achieved fame with Detective Conan, which crossed borders and was published in numerous countries.
In 2021 his work Detective Conan reached 100 volumes of manga.

Abstract
Shinichi Kudo is a 17 year old high school student, a young detective who is secretly very much in love with his childhood best friend, Ran Mouri, what Shinichi doesn’t know is that she is also in love with him.
One day, while at an amusement park with Ran, he witnesses men dressed in black making a suspicious exchange with a mysterious man.
His detective’s intuition alerts him that they are up to something and he decides to pursue them. His suspicions are correct and while spying on them he is discovered, attacked from behind and given a poison to kill him.
In principle, the poison should have ended his life, but it has an unexpected effect: he wakes up to discover that he has been transformed into a 7 year old boy.
To protect himself and not implicate his family, Shinichi changes his identity and decides to call himself Conan Edogawa.
He goes to live with Ran and Ran’s father Kogoro Mouri, a detective of little prestige. Neither Ran nor her father know the true identity of Conan, who will secretly solve Mouri’s cases.
Little by little, new adventures and more mysteries related to the men in black will emerge.
Shinichi will try to find out who invented the poison that transformed him and its ingredients, in order to become a 17 year old boy again and recover his identity.
