Abstract
Тhe undisputed pinnacle of Anton Strashimirov’s work remains the novel “Horo”. On the background of the bloody suppression of the September Uprising of 1923, he makes a devastating dissection of the collapse of Bulgarian society. The narrative begins with a wedding, but it is actually, “a story about death.” The bloody horror of the chorus on the corpses of the slain affects the psyche in an extremely painful and memorable way.The main character Micheto is raped by the district chief, because he wants to takе her inhеritance by marrying her.His friend is the colonel, who threatens the girl that if she doesn’t do it, he will kill her lover. On the day of the wedding, a series of brutal murders occur, but Mic’s lover kidnaps and rescues her.The district chief falls into despair because he loses not his wife, but hер inheritance. The colonel takes the investigation into his own hands – he draws up a protocol in the presence of the mayor (the colonel and the mayor’s wife are lovers), his assistant and the prosecutor, and then they go to the 17 women who think they know where the girl is and shoot them. even elderly people were killed.
After throwing the corpses of the women on top of each other, they call the other women into the front yard to make them spit on them. The women refuse, the colonel becomes furious and calls for music to play traditional dance- horo. Makes the women play while the soldiers beat them with their whips. This is known as “the bloody dance”. The whole story is about money and how a man with power is so brutal and disrespectful to human’s life.
